WHEELCHAIR CURLERS REQUIRED FOR PARALYMPICS

Filed under: Olympics — johnb at 8:34 pm on Friday, September 5, 2008

British Curling (BC) is seeking a registration of interest from any athletes within the UK who wish to be considered for the Great Britain Paralympic Curling Squad for the Winter Paralympic Games, Vancouver 2010 and beyond.

A series of events have been established to identify the best athletes in the country who are eligible to compete for Great Britain at the Paralympic games.  They combine target accuracy and weight control which is established by the use of a plumb line and a target, captured on video and scored accordingly, along with laser timers to assess the degree of weight control of each athlete.  It should be noted that this complex system is aimed at elite level athletes and is not for beginners as a “come and try event”.

Details of each event are enclosed in the information pack (see below) and athletes are requested to indicate their preference of venue and time and consideration will be given to geography and distance when drawing up the schedule.  You will be informed of your exact timings shortly after the registration process is complete.

An athlete information pack is available which covers the BC selection process, timelines and eligibility.  The information packs can be obtained by contacting
